JCI Dhaka Founders wrapped up the 4-month long workshop for the physical and mental wellbeing of working women on Saturday, September 28 at the Founder’s Hub co-working space located in Mirpur DOHS, Dhaka. The 5th and final session of the workshop was attended by 22 participants, two trainers and a few important members of the local chapter.
Undoubtedly, today’s women are a force to reckon with, both inside and outside the house! Beside playing an important role in the workplace, we are also responsible for taking care of our home and our families. As a result, working women face a unique set of challenges that can contribute to mental health issues, often stemming from the pressure to balance professional responsibilities with household and caregiving duties.
Around us, many women experience burnout, anxiety, and stress as they try to meet high expectations both at work and at home. A lot of the problems that we face include workplace gender disparities, unequal pay, lack of career advancement, or limited support for maternity leave.
This can lead to exhaustion and feelings of guilt for not fulfilling all roles perfectly. This constant juggling act can result in long-term emotional fatigue, exacerbating mental health concerns.
With these problems in mind, JCI Dhaka Founders organized a 4-month long workshop with a total of 5 sessions, each designed to improve their overall physical, mental and emotional health.
According to Maria Rahman Ananna, an employee of Backspace International, all the sessions have been incredibly helpful to her. “I loved all the sessions, especially the last one,” She told us, “The session on Relationship Management at the workplace taught me how to maintain a civilized and friendly relationship with everyone in my office, how to talk to people, and how to maintain a personal boundary. The tips I received is certainly going to help me further in my career.”
Sharmin, an employee of Bizcope, found the first session on “stress management” most helpful. She says, “For us working women, stress is a daily worry. In the first session, we learned about managing our stress, and to control and help ourselves. I also picked up a lot of useful information from the other sessions.”
The series of workshop started in June, with 5 separate sessions especially designed for working women. The sessions focused on stress management, creating a positive work environment, taking care of ourselves during menstruation, maintaining and managing relationships at work, and balancing healthy eating and exercise with a hectic work schedule.
